Important Engine Requirement
This module is intended for select vehicles equipped with the early 3.0L M104 24-valve engine.
It should not be advertised as a direct replacement for:
- M103 12-valve engines
- Later 3.2L M104 engines
- Four-cylinder or V8 engines
- Vehicles requiring Bosch 0227400738
- Vehicles carrying a different original EZL number
The car’s year and model alone are not enough to guarantee compatibility.
Common Failure Symptoms
A faulty EZL module may cause:
- Engine cranks but does not start
- No spark
- Intermittent hot no-start
- Engine stalls after reaching operating temperature
- Vehicle restarts after cooling
- Weak or inconsistent spark
- Misfire under acceleration
- Sudden engine shutdown
- Difficult hot starting
- Ignition coils fail to trigger correctly
Similar symptoms may also be caused by the crankshaft-position sensor, ignition coils, distributor components, wiring, grounds, fuel delivery, or charging-system voltage. Proper diagnosis is recommended.
Condition Details
This is a used genuine Bosch electronic component. It may show normal scratches, dust, faded labeling, oxidation, thermal-compound residue, or other signs of previous installation.
Removed from a running vehicle and tested before removal. The engine started, ran, and reached operating temperature without EZL-related faults.
Critical Installation Requirement
The EZL module uses its mounting surface as a heat sink. Old thermal compound must be carefully removed and an appropriate layer of fresh heat-transfer compound must be applied during installation.
Installing or operating the module without proper heat-transfer compound may cause overheating and permanent failure.
Professional installation is strongly recommended.
Programming
Programming is not normally required when installing an exact-number replacement. However, the Bosch and Mercedes numbers must match the correct engine and ignition calibration.
Buyer Verification

- Vehicle VIN and production date
If unsure, send Oz’s Garage the VIN and clear photographs of the original module’s label and connectors.
